Welcome to Helsinki!

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Annual Symposium of the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism, to be held in Helsinki, 25–28 August 2026. This year’s theme, Next Generation Metabolic Medicine, invites us to reflect on where research in our field is heading and how today’s science shapes tomorrow’s practice.

The “next generation” also reminds us of the pregnancies and newborns directly affected by inborn errors of metabolism, as well as of our responsibility to educate future healthcare professionals to serve these patients. With this in mind, we have designed a program that is both visionary and practical, combining cutting-edge research with opportunities for learning and collaboration.

Renowned experts will share their insights, but we warmly encourage you to contribute by submitting abstracts. This year we have increased the number of oral presentations, and physical posters will be on display throughout the Symposium to stimulate discussion and exchange.

We are committed to creating a truly multidisciplinary meeting and warmly welcome patients and their advocates, researchers, dietitians, nurses, clinicians, biochemists, geneticists and other professionals.

Face-to-face interaction remains one of the most valuable aspects of our Symposium, enabling meaningful discussions, new collaborations, and ultimately improving the lives of those living with inborn errors of metabolism.

Alongside the scientific program, our exhibition will feature leading companies, patient advocacy groups, and other organizations presenting their latest developments. Sponsors will also host stimulating satellite symposia.Helsinki is renowned as a hub for international meetings. Our venue, Messukeskus, is a modern conference center with excellent transport connections and nearby accommodation. The city offers a wide range of hotels and restaurants, with fresh seasonal produce at its best in late summer. We look forward to welcoming you to Helsinki for what promises to be an inspiring, productive, and memorable Symposium.

Warm regards,
